In this post, I’m going to walk you through how to do content marketing the right way for the year 2020 and beyond because most people suck at content marketing.

For those who are not too familiar, you may be asking:

According to Content Marketing Institute, content marketing is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant, and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience — and, ultimately, to drive profitable customer action.

Depending on what your goals are, you can use content marketing to drive traffic to the top of the funnel which serves to create awareness for your business. You can as well do middle of the funnel which helps you collect leads and bottom of the funnel where you make your prospect take a desired action.

In summary, your content’s job is two-folds:

1. Get as much relevant traffic as possible.

2. Convert or prepare your visitors to become paying customers.

But in terms of doing content marketing the right way, one of the biggest problems right now is that our attention is so split.

One second, I might be watching Netflix and the next second I’ll take out my phone and I’ll look at multiple apps. I might look at one app, switch over to another app, then I’ll take out my computer.

One video might become multiple podcasts, might become multiple blog posts, might become multiple social posts. So one piece could easily become 40 or 50 pieces, maybe even up to a hundred pieces or so.

And it sounds very overwhelming. But I’ll tell you, its very important to start now to make plans for this kind of content sprouting because it pays upfront.

So, if anything, God forbid anything happens, with one channel, you’re going to be protected across the board. So that’s one of the things that you need to do to be able to do content marketing the right way.

In 2020, If you’re going Omni channel, you need to think about posting natively to the platforms.

For you to natively post on each platform then you need to format your content to fit each platform. e.g Let’s say we create a well formatted Youtube video which is 40 minutes long, if you need to post that same video on Instagram TV which is only 10 minutes long.

We’ve got to figure out how we can chop that down to fit IGTV.

When you do this, it shows people that you really care about what you’re doing and its worth the extra effort.

Think about this. What are you good at? Is it writing?. If it’s short form writing, maybe you go to Twitter, right? naval ravikant Built a brand doing that.
